As I was experiencing a creative block to paint bigger, I found the photo of a painting from Akseli Gallen Kallela. A snowscape.
I really connected with it. Probably because it revived so many snow memories. I suddenly thought of an unfinished piece I had started five years in Finland when I was living in Kaivopiusto in Helsinki. I was painting from the window of my atelier. It was when I discovered the effect of snowmelt and how beautiful and new it was to me.
I rushed to my atelier to find the unfinished painting and decided to further work on it. No photo reference from the place, only my memory, sensation and imagination and that invisible support from Akseli ….
