SLOW SNOWMELT

As I was experiencing a creative block to paint bigger, I found the photo of a painting from Akseli Gallen Kallela. A snowscape.

I really connected with it. Probably because it revived so many snow memories. I suddenly thought of an unfinished piece I had started five years when I was living in Helsinki. I was painting from the window of my atelier. At that time, I had discovered the effect of snowmelt ; how subtle, long and slow it was. Like the creation process.

I rushed to my atelier to find the unfinished painting and decided to further work on it. No photo reference from the place, only my memory, sensation and imagination and that invisible support from Akseli. I quicky sold the piece so I decided to create an interpretation in a larger format.
