WILDLIFE AND A PAINTER’S GEM

It was a pretty humid morning. As I was checking the fences of the horses’ pasture, i.e. going in unexpected and pretty unaccessible places, I suddenly discovered a painter’s gem.

You might think of an incredible point of view over the landscape or a special light that makes me wish I had my painting supplies with me, right?

But this time, I was looking down at the ground. And I found an almost complete skeleton of a wild animal. Probably a young deer. It was in great conservation condition. Wow! I have dreamt of finding a skeleton for years.

It feels like starting the book by the end. I get to draw and paint the primal layer of life. We have the bones, then the muscles, the nerves, the flesh and the emotions. All these layers hold different kind of memories that are so intriguing to me as the emotion (and memory) portrait painter.
